Yala National Park Safari

Yala national park is the most popular safari place in local and foreign peoples. Yala is the second-largest park in Sri Lanka. That is a beautiful place to get an excellent safari experience. You will get 3 hours or 8 hours (it depends on your choice) of jeep safari inside to the park.

Yala National park located at Hambantota, and the nearest city is Kataragama. There has 260Killomeeter southeast of Colombo. You will be able to reach Yala when you spend like 6 hours from Colombo.

There have three entry points.

  • Katagamuwa
  • Palatupana
  • Galge

What you can See in Yala Safari

Yala has 378 sq miles, and most of the time, the weather is sunny and dry. In this area, you will see a lot of wildlife. There are 32 kinds of animals like Leopards, Elephants, Sloth Bears, Wild Boars, Deers, Water Buffalos, Crocodile, and many more animals.

Most of the time, you will see Leopards and Elephants on the road. The highest leopards amount live in Yala national park. Also, there has the most significant amount of Elephants in the park.

You will see a lot of birds throughout your safari tour. There have 130 species of birds around the park. Most of the time, you will see a lot of Peacock, Sea Eagles, Flamingos.

What should you need to know

Like I told before, Yala is so famous for Sri Lanka safari. So you will not be alone with animals. There will have a lot of jeeps around your jeep. That is the downside. Sometimes you will miss the animals.

Yala Park opens for visitors at 6 AM to 6 PM. (try to go after 9.00 AM)

June to September is the best time to visit Yala

Udawalawe National Park

Udawalawe National Park

This park is the 6th largest national park in Sri Lanka. In Udawalawe National Park, You will see a lot of Elephants all around the park. Here you will get a fantastic safari experience.

Udawalawe National Park located at the border of the Sabaragamu and Uva provinces. There has 200 Km South-East from Colombo. Embilipitiya is the nearest City to Udawalawe National Park. You have to spend like 3 hours to reach the Udawalawe national park from Colombo.

This park has 119 sq miles of land.

What you can See In Udawalawe Safari

Udawalawe is famous for Asian Elephants. There has around 500 Elephants in this park. Most of them are warry you can get real experience with wild Elephants. There have safari jeeps so you can reach those Elephants without worrying about your safety.

Most of the time, you will see baby elephants with their parents. That is an amazing and lovely view.

You will see other animals like Foxes, Water Buffalo, Jungle Cats, Wild Boar, Crocodiles, and many others.

Also, there have a lot of birds around this park. You will find different kinds of birds above Sri Lanka Grey Hornbill, Red-faced MalkohaSpurfowl, Sea eagle, and many more birds.

There is an Elephant Transit Home. People look after baby Elephants who abandoned by their mother in that place.

What should you need to know

You have to buy an entrance ticket also hire a 4×4 jeep. Also, you can’t use your privet vehicle to safari in this park. So you have to park it at the parking on Udawalawe national park.

This one jeep can use for six if you have more than six people you have to hire more Jeeps.

You can get a half-day or full-day jeep safari in this park. That depends on your choice.

Kumana National Park Safaris


Are you a bird lover? So Kumana National Park Safari is the best for you.

Kumana national park located at Arugam bay and Hambantota is the nearest city. There has 391 KM southeast of Colombo. You have to reach Panama to enter Kuman National park.

This national park formerly called Yala East National Park. But now it called Kumana National Park. There has 35664 hectares of area. So this is perfect for jeep safari.

What you can See in Kumana safari

There have over 430 species of birds in Kuman national park. You will find a lot of native birds is Kumana. Like Spoonbills, Pelicans, White Ibis, Egrets, and many more. So you can see more than 200 species of birds.

You can choose morning, evening, or full-day safari. So you can get safari jeeps at the entrance of this park.

You will see animals like Elephants, Leopards, Golden Jackal, Sloth Bear, Wild Boar, Turtles, Crocodile, and many more.

This park has river called “Kumubukkan Oya” so you will find a lot of animals and birds around that area.

you have to hire a jeep and buy tickets to enter this park.
